Coventry City Ladies beat Swansea Ladies 9-0

Coventry City Ladies beat Swansea Ladies 9-0 on Sunday afternoon at Bedworth United.

COVENTRY City Ladies head coach Paul Cudby had plenty to smile about after watching his side storm to a convincing 9-0 victory over Swansea Ladies on Sunday afternoon.

The extended 120 minute friendly match at The Oval, the home of Bedworth United, allowed Cudby to field two sides as he continues to build for the start of the 2011/12 Premier League season.

Coventry were four goals ahead after the first period, which consisted of two 30 minute halves.

This allowed Cudby to completely re-shuffle his side and another commanding performance over their Welsh opposition saw the Sky blues run out clear winners.

"Today's win was a good one," said Cudby. "It was pleasing to see us start so well in both halves of the game, I felt at times we played some good football.

"Again, we're at our best when we are keeping things simple. When we were playing one and two touch football we were really pleasing on the eye.

"It was also really pleasing to start well at our new home at Bedworth United, who I have to say looked after us fantastically and made us feel very welcome.

Cudby added: "Hopefully this win is the first of many at The Oval this season!"

Coventry opened the scoring after the first minute thanks to a goal from Helen Dermody and less than a quarter of an hour later Jenni Foster took advantage of a scramble at the goal mouth to fire the Sky Blues into a two-goal lead.

Milly Durrant made it 3-0 as the hosts continued to dominate and Danni Saulter made it four just before the interval which prompted Cudby to switch his team.

Numerous changes failed to stop Coventry's momentum as Abbie Hinton scored the opening goal of the second period with an audacious flick in the 61st minute.

Excellent controlled footwork between Courtney Sweetman-Kirk and Jade Formaston allowed Leanne McKenna to fire home their sixth into the roof of the net.

Further strikes by McKenna, recent signing Maz Gauntlet and an own goal in the final minute of the match confirmed the 9-0 scoreline and now Cudby's side have a week to rest before this Sunday's friendly with Manchester City at Coventry Sphinx
