Coventry City Ladies lost 3-1 at home to Watford on Sunday

PAUL Cudby couldn't hide his disappointment after watching Coventry City Ladies slip to their fifth defeat of the season at home to Watford.

The Sky Blues fell behind in bizarre circumstances when the impressive Sarah Wiltshire scored direct from a corner and Megan Wynne made it two shortly after the restart when she beat Sally Morgan with a curling shot.

Katy Ward pulled one back for Cudby's side with 15 minutes to go but Wiltshire wrapped up all three points for Watford eight minutes from time and Cudby admitted to sharing some harsh words with his players after the match.

"We were disappointed with how we performed today, individually and collectively," said Cudby.

"I expected more from us in all areas of the pitch. Individual errors led to the goals yes, but we weren't good enough as a team, and if those mistakes hadn't have been punished, other mistakes might have been, so it would be grossly unfair to single anyone out.

"As a team we need to learn the lessons from this, and make sure our performances are always at a higher level. We didn't earn any kind of right to play at all, so it's important this is addressed next week.

"Yes we were missing a few players, we've always said that we achieve what we do as a squad, so again there's going to be no blame attached, or excuses used, we weren't good enough on the day.

"Watford I have to say were very good, they didn't stop working for each other the whole game, they looked very dangerous on the counter attack all day, and took their chances well.

"We've got to make sure we put this to rest through training this week, the good thing is that everyone was really hurting and disappointed after that performance.

"I'd have to say that I'd really expect a positive response from this based on the frank exchanges that we all had after the game, we know exactly how difficult a proposition Barnet will be too."

Coventry remain third in the league table and are next in action when they host Barnet Ladies this Sunday (December 11).
