Under 9 Team Match Reports 2006/07 Oadby & Wigston United 7 - 0 Coventry City Ladies Our second trip to Oadby And Wigston but this time our opponents were high flying unbeaten top of the league United. This time we were a little bit better prepared as we followed in a tight and I mean tight convoy to all arrive together. The contrast between the too sides was evident from the start. Coventry having only played a handful of games and at the younger end of the under 9’s and Oadby in their second season together. From the kick off the pressure was put on the young and inexperienced Coventry defence. With wave after wave of Oadby pressure Naimh in goal was kept very busy diving left and right deflecting shots and coming out to take balls from the attackers feet. But also some stalwart defending from Holly and Chloe working effectively together helped clear many attacks before Oadby’ strikers had a chance to shoot on goal. But on every opportunity we tried to attack with Sophie, Kira and Abby all trying desperately to supply the eager striker Isabella. The only chance to fall Coventry’s way fell in the end to Abby who shot at goal but wide of the left hand post. But all the pressure finally told when a good strike from an Oadby striker flew past a diving Naimh and into the net. Half time score: Oadby & Wigston United 1 - 0 Coventry City Ladies In the second half the endless pressure began to tell and Coventry’s defence began to tire. The Oadby attackers were pulling the defence one-way then the other and we started to loose our shape. The goals came finally for Oadby and there was nothing the tired Coventry Girls could do. Even the changes made could not stop the dominant Oadby attackers from getting their shots on goal. With the final whistle the tired Coventry Girls walked off to the applause from the managers and parents because although we lost the girls performance had again improved. Parents player of the match Birthday girl Naimh. Coventry City Ladies 2 - 0 Enderby Foxes Coventry played their first home game thanks to some hard work from Paul. All the girls looked great as they played in there new kit. Both teams had not won a game this season so it could be a good game. Coventry started the stronger but both teams had there chances. Half time: Coventry City Ladies 0 - 0 Enderby Foxes Coventry soon took the lead early in the 2nd half when Isabella slotted the ball home watched by her smiling family. A second soon followed when Kira scored her first for the club. What a great game by Coventry all the girls played really well and deserved the win. Parent player of the Match Sophie Coventry City Ladies 0 - 10 Oadby & Wigston Dynamos Coventry had to play this game away as their home ground is not ready. Oadby is one of the easy pitches to find but my lovely group of parents still managed to get lost big time. I will not say who but when they follow the wrong car does not help. The girls turned up in the end and settled themselves to the task again. For the second game on the trot the girls where against girls with a year's experience and it soon showed. Coventry struggled against the bigger girls and soon the goals began to come. Once again super keeper was keeping the goal count low. Just the same as the last game the 2nd half was total different and Coventry started to show what they could do but just could not score. Asfordby Amateurs 9 - 0 Coventry City Ladies This was the first time the team had played together as they had only been formed 1 week ago. The girls where straight off on their travels to Asfordby, as normal we got lost (in 3 years of going to Asfordby with have never found it first time). The girls looked a little nervous when the game kicked off and where always going to struggle in there first game against players who had been together in some cases for 2 years. All the girls ran there hearts out never giving up. I am sure that some of the parents will be going home with sore throats with the amount of shouting they did. Heaven know what will happen when we final score. It was great to see 9 little red face smile back at us at the end, and when asked did they enjoy it, the answer was a big loud YES!!! Well played girls and a big thank you to the parents. |
